Program Process 2009/2010


Ø        Complete the 18 hour leadership skill-building curriculum plus complimentary local        components

Ø        Facilitate development and implementation of a student service learning project

Ø        Provide adult guidance for the Youth Advisory Council

Ø        Compile data from pre/post test for evaluation

Ø        Provide narrative of program outcomes for evaluation

Ø       Perform in an advisory capacity to local community organizations, Meriwether County  Interagency Family Connection

Ø       Promote awareness and enforcement of the 100% Tobacco Free School Policy

Ø       Participating in technical assistance telephone conference calls twice per quarter

Ø       Attending quarterly district-wide Youth Advisory Council training and update meetings

Ø       Selecting one youth and one adult advisor as contacts for routine communications, submit  contact information to AHYD

Ø       Select two youth from the Youth Advisory Council and one adult advisor to serve a district  representative to AHYD

Ø       Participate in other events and activities (within reason) that may be offered through AHYD.

 In conclusion,  the Meriwether County Interagency Family Connections, Inc. will implement    with the assistance of the Adult Advisor the University of Georgia Fanning Institute -  Youth  Leadership In Action: A Community Focus Program.

YAC Implementation Plan 2009/2010

 

INTRODUCTION:

Meriwether County Interagency Family Connections, Inc. is a collaboration of family representatives, business professional, educators, health providers, faith-based representative, elected officials and community leaders that believe in promoting youth development. In partnership with Twin Cedars Youth Services, a private non profit organization offering an array of services for youth,  in a residential setting that specializes in serving teens with sexually traumatic events, sexually aggressive youth, severely emotionally disturbed youth and teen mothers.   The Meriwether Youth Leadership Program was developed to provide emerging youth leaders, as well as expand their knowledge of the community.  This program is designed to impact on the identified issue of alcohol, tobacco and other drug usage, sexual activity, and dropping out of school.  The graduates of this program will be the core participants of the University of Georgia Fanning Institute - Youth Leadership In Action: A Community Focus Program.

Meriwether County recognizes the need for continued education and motivation to develop effective future leaders in our communities.  Our goal is to prepare our young people with the skills needed to be successful in their future.  The opportunity to use the resources provided by the University of Georgia Fanning Institute -Youth Leadership In Action: A Community Focus program to further their personal growth to foster leadership is a wonderful tool that will be used to it fullest to reach our youth.

STRATEGY/PLAN:

The Meriwether County Interagency Family Connections plans to implement the leadership curriculum from University of Georgia Fanning Institute - Youth Leadership In Action: A Community Focus program with our existing Twin Cedars Graduates of the Meriwether Youth Leadership and Service Program.   Additional participants will be developed from recommendations from our graduation coaches from Greenville High School, Manchester High School, Manchester Middle School and community leaders.     The Youth Advisory Council will be developed from these recommendations.   We intend to serve twenty (20) eighth to twelfth grade youth and teens from our public schools, both male and female. 

With the assistance of Meriwether County business professionals, Meriwether County School System, local civic organizations and community leaders the University of Georgia Fanning Institute - Youth Leadership In Action: A Community Focus program will be implemented and facilitated to the selected youth.   Including our business professionals, school system, civic organizations and community leaders this will further promote awareness and enforcement of the 100% Tobacco Free School Policy as well as extend into our community
